Abstract

Information Communication Technologies (ICT’s) is now performing as the third hand for shifting farmer’s life to the next level by improving access to information and sharing of knowledge. The Tamil Nadu Government has launched the “Uzhavan” mobile application for the benefit of farmers. The Uzhavan provides information about subsidy schemes available for various inputs like seeds, farm machinery, solar pump sets, plastic mulching, shade nets, Beehives, poly houses, micro irrigation units, cold storage units, custom hiring centres, water harvesting systems, crop insurance, mushroom shed net, hi-tech nursery along with the subsidy amount and percentage of subsidy for small, marginal, and large farmers. The Uzhavan app is used by many farmers and it is farmers friendly. It’s great to hear that the platform is helping farmers navigate challenges beyond lockdown, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient selling process while adhering to social distancing norms. It’s great to hear that the Uzhavan App experienced growth in its user base from 2020 to 2023. Showing a growth in user base over that period.
